At the start of the year, the Entertainment Software Association announced the cancellation of E3 2022 as an in-person event. At that time, the status of a virtual version of the event was still up in the air, but the ESA has officially confirmed that there will be no E3 in any form this year.
The ESA shared a statement to announce that there will be no digital E3 showcase in 2022, and that they’ll be focusing all of their energy on a revitalized physical and digital experience in Los Angeles next summer. The statement promises a return in 2023 with a “reinvigorated showcase that celebrates new and exciting video games and industry innovations.”
While the ESA didn’t go into further details, the statement mentions an “all-new format and interactive experience” for next year’s showcase. Stay tuned for further announcements regarding the future of E3 as they make their way to the public.
