After being teased yesterday, the Toho MOVIE YouTube channel released the first teaser trailer for Makoto Shinkai’s next anime film Suzume no Tojimari tonight showing more of the hero of the film Suzume as well as the fantastical elements that feature in the story – a small departure from Your Name and Weathering with You.

Makoto Shinkai, who is best known for writing, producing, and directing the smash-hit anime film Your Name and Weathering With You, returns in those roles for Suzume no Tojimari, English title pending. Shinkai has also brought back Masayoshi Tanaka from Your Name and Weathering With You as the character designer, with Kenichi Tsuchiya returning from Your Name as the animation director. Long-time Shinkai collaborator Takumi Tanji also returns from Your Name and The Garden of Words in the Art Director’s chair. The animation will be produced at CoMix Wave Films, with STORY inc. producing and Toho distributing the film inside Japan.

Seemingly mesmerized by its power, Suzume reaches for the knob…

Doors begin to open one after another all across Japan, unleashing destruction upon any who are near. Suzume must close these portals to prevent further disaster.
