Three new cast members have been revealed for Eiga Zannen na Ikimono Ziten (“The Unfortunate Animals Encyclopedia: The Movie”), an upcoming theatrical anime film based on the popular series of children’s books by Tadaaki Imaizumi about the awkward aspects of living in the Animal Kingdom.
The new cast members make up the Zannen Trio (pictured above), a group of singing platypuses that appear in the Australia segment, and the cast includes:
- Oniyakko Tsubaki as Laty.
- Tsukasa Saito (of comedy duo Trendy Angel) as Pus.
- And Kousei (of comedy duo Miki) as Pla.

Zannen na Ikimono Ziten has previously been adapted into a short form TV anime with direction by Jun Aoki and animation production by Fanworks that broadcasts on NHK E TV. Eiga Zannen na Ikimono Ziten focuses on strange and unfortunate animals that live in three areas: Antarctica, Australia, and the Azumi Basin in Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

In the film, Yuuji Uchiyama writes and directs the Antarctica segment, while Naomi Iwata directs and Yōichi Katō writes the screenplay for the Australia segment, and Kei Yoshimizu directs and Toru Hosokawa writes the screenplay for the Japan (Nagano) segment. Fanworks provides animation production.
Eiga Zannen na Ikimono Ziten is scheduled to hit theaters in Japan on July 08, 2022.
